Bottom line
The Act renumbers TDS provisions — salary TDS is Section 392 and most other TDS sits under Section 393 with numeric payment codes — and renames the forms, effective 1 April 2026.

From 1 April 2026 the Income-tax Act 2025 replaced the 1961 Act. For TDS, salary moves to Section 392 and almost all other TDS is consolidated under Section 393, which carries a single table of numeric payment codes (1001–1067).

Returns and certificates are renamed (Forms 138/140/144, Form 130, Form 168, Form 121). The familiar 194-series numbers still describe the nature of payment, but challans and statements must now use the new section/code and form references.
