Bottom line
Prepare the statement in the RPU, validate it through the FVU using your challan (CSI) file, and upload it on the income-tax portal or through a TIN-FC.Broadly: (1) deposit all challans for the quarter; (2) download the challan status (CSI) file; (3) prepare the statement in the Return Preparation Utility (RPU) with deductee PANs, sections/codes and challan details; (4) validate it through the File Validation Utility (FVU) to generate the .fvu file; and (5) upload it on the e-filing portal (with DSC/EVC) or submit through a TIN facilitation centre.
After filing, download Form 16/16A (now Form 130) from TRACES and issue it to deductees. A pre-filing checklist helps avoid the common PAN and challan-mismatch defaults.
